Aegina island is also called by some local people as Aigina or Egina. It is the largest & the most popular island in the Saronic Gulf. It is very close to Athens, only 18 miles, and preferred by the most of yachtsmen as the first stop and/or last stop for itineraries to and from Athens.
The harbour of the island is the Aegina town which is at the North-Western end of the island.
It is one of the beautiful and picturesque towns of Saronic islands. One can find tens of which offers restaurants, tavernas, bars and cafes for a variety of tastes.
pistachios of Aegina is famous which has been cultivated pistachio trees more than a 100 years now. Wide range of excellent nuts of Aegina is also well known. One can buy fresh fish from the market on the waterfront and also fresh fruits from the fruit-boats. The villages on the island worth to visit are, Ag. Marina, Marathonas, Mesagros, Perdika and Souvala. Ag. Marina is suggested for tavernas and great nightlife as well as shopping.

The climate of Aegina is the classic Mediterranean climate which consists of mild winters and dry, hot summers. Spring and autumn are best time of the year to visit Aegina. The weather is sunny and warm with few chances of rain and temperature between 21-25 degrees Celsius (69-77 degrees Fahrenheit). During the dry summer months (June to August) the average temperature is 25-31 degrees Celsius (77-88 degrees Fahrenheit).
