Capital, main town of the island is Poros which is the main port for all activities of the island.

The most particular thing about Poros is that the island is separated from Peloponnes Coast by a narrow sea channel. There are taxi boats all day & night for connection and bringing people to and from the Peloponnese coast. Many cafes, clubs, restaurants, taverns, night clubs and souvenir shops are all gathered on Poros town. The villages of Perlia and Kalavria are the alternative choices offering privacy, peace, country life and seafood.

The beaches, are mostly in little bays on the South coast of the island. Almost all of the beaches have calm and protected waters and many are well-organised offering high standard of facilities and services. Some of the suggested beaches and coves are Askeli, Kalavria, Kanali, Neorio, Vayiona, Megalo Neorio and the Russian and lover's bay.

The prevailing wind in Poros island is “meltemi”. It blows from NE at 3-5 Bft.
The climate is typical Mediterranean, sunny and dry summers and mild winters with little rainfalls.

The main harbour is at the north side of Poros. Recently, new piers added to increase the capacity. It is a safe shelter for all winds. Yachts can moor to the quay on the old docks of the North side of the town as well as on the South in the narrow channel.

Anchorages in Poros, highly suggested ones are, Ormos (bay) Vidhi, cape Dana, Russian bay, Neorion, Alyki, Monastery bay & Soupia islet.

Poros is the ideal place also for water sports. There schools, training chances at Askeli, Neorio and Perlia as well as for scuba diving near For those who like activities such as mountain biking and trekking, there are good routes and footpaths mostly in Monastiri, Kanali and Neorio.

Car and motorbike rentals are available in the main town and at the port.
