Cedar Key was named for the trees that once grew here It was settled in the 1840s by Augustus Steel The region supplied salt to the Confederacy by boiling sea water. It is now known as the "Nature Coast" of Florida, and attracts bird watchers, star gazers, and nature lovers from all over the country.
