This dive site is quite visable from the western side of south solitary Island and on many occasions the waves break over the rock. A calm sea is best for this site and current can also be present at times. Anchoring is best on the north eastern corner in about 12 metres of water and there are many gutters and grottos in this area with lion fish, turtles, and a vast array of pelagic fish present at times. Also for macro photographers there are many species of nudibranchs and flatworms in this area as are Coral and Mantis shrimps to be found in the many hidden cracks in the craggy gutters, for this reason take a torch even in good conditions.
Black Rock is only a 5 minute boat ride over from the western side of south solitary island and is also part of our Marine Park here in Coffs Harbour.
